85 HINTS FOR A ONE-YEAR-OLD IN ITALY

Buonasera.

This is my first posting on here, so ciao to you all.

We are flying to Italy in September for a 10 day break in Umbria. Our little bambino will have just turned 1 year old and we wondered whether anyone had any experiences they would like to share on what to expect or what to do (or not to do!).

hi brucieboy we have been travelling to italy since my son was 6 months old, admittedly the first was a beach holiday in sardinia, however first i would advise that if your baby is on sma milk then take your own preffered brand as the italian shops are limited in this respect apart from that i would not overload yourself with stuff like nappies you can get just about everything else in the larger supermarkets or chemists, if baby is on real whizzed up food( we just bought a hand blender from the supermarket) then no problems. babies are especially welcome in italy dont be suprised to have young girls as well as old ladies cooing over your little one, they are a great ice breaker!! the only thing we struggled with in restraunts was high chairs, it was not unusual for the owner to disappear for ten minutes and come back ith a high chair borrowed from a local family, failing that i have seen my son stacked up on top a pile of napkins so he could reach the dinner table. seriously dont worry the italian people usually bend over backwards to help out. hope this is of use any specific q's give me a shout i'll do my best to help out, mark

We had similar experience and response to those Marco had but, depending on your tastes of course, I wouldn't advise holding back on the clothes packing and looking to fill the wardrobe with Italian bambino chic. Around the 12 -24/36 months age group we found that Italian ranges were much more baby than toddler which you find in the UK. Also, a further frustrating point is that the majority of children's clothes available in Italy with writing on the design is in English!!! Quite annoying when you are looking for every little bit of help in nurturing your child's language skills.
