[QUOTE=SallyinVerona]Hi everyone. Just joined the forum. Im a student living in Verona at the moment, studying Classical Music - perfect location...especially as im interested in opera!
I only found out about this website/magazine because my flight over here was delayed by and hour, and i spotted the magazine in Gatwick's last newsagent before the gate!! Very lucky!!
Anyways, any information on ex-pats, groups etc in the north around Verona, Venice or Milan would be welcome, as am rather daunted by this whole experience so far!
Ciao

Hi Sally, If you were nearer, I would stronly recommend the English church in Florence. They have quite an active choir that holds regular public performances in the church and they get a good turnover of students who are just passing through, like yourself. There is also the British Institute with it's great library, they also hold weekly film and book clubs. Florence is a couple of hours by train and you may find similar things in Venice which is only an hour. If you are interested in mountains you should join your local CAI - they will all be Italian but some will speak English and will introduce you to all kind of mountain marvels!
ciao ciao

Try contacting the Benvenuto Club in Milan. There may also be one in Venice, I am afraid I do not know, but I do not think there is one in Verona. However, the Milan group should be able to tell you if there is a nearer group:

It is an international English speaking womens club who usually meet up about once a month, basically if you are female and can speak English you can join. Members are 'ex-pats' from all over the world and can be a huge source of local information, general help and moral support when required! Although not everyone's cup of tea, the club certainly has its uses.
Verona is a wonderful city and I am sure you will have a fantastic and memorable time.
Good luck

Unfortunately we are right down in the 'heel' in Puglia ...but what you are doing sounds fabulous...have a great time. :)
Many moons ago (1968/1969) I spent a year in Florence as an au pair which gave me a life-long love of Italy , which is why we have sold up completely and retired here.
And to be in Verona studying classical music.....you lucky thing !!
