guilianova... one of our neighbours ... has a family hotel there so know it quite well as we sometimes pop down to eat... its one of the more family type locations...built up but not too much...ie... rosetto down the road is much busier... in october last year people were still in the sea there... winter...its always at least 5 c warmer than where we are inland ...spring again the same ... you rarely get frosts in the coastal areas...although last year there was a bit of snow along the a14.... guilianova alta...is pretty ...i think you will find that if you are looking for modern property then the coast is the place otherwise if you go into the hills just behind there are the alta original villages... and the temps are pretty much the same as the coastal areas... providing you do not go too far inland.. one thing is the house prices are generally higher towards the coast and drop off as you come inland..
if you are looking for property have a good knowledge of a registerd italian agency located in alba adriatica ... just up the road from guilianova and would be happy to send you details via the PM system if you would like... or if when you are down here and want any further info you are welcome to call in or meet up and pick our somewhat limited brains... we live just west of Teramo....
anyway one thing for sure apart from easter it will be pretty quite there...
have a good holiday... oh yes the coastal temp today at 06.00 was 15 c... but nothing is guaranteed... for your visit

Hi Val
We were in Guilianova in December and it was definetly warmer than the UK.
Walked along the beach and of course it was deserted - I am sure the locals thought we were mad. There is an amazing gelateria directly opposite the port entrance which appears to be open all year round and we can thoroughly recommend it. Guilianova gets busy during June, July and early August but until recently it has tended to be with Italians and Germans, however there are some Uk tour operators which are now pushing into this region.
We have always tried to stay in the countryside and can recommend an agriturismo called Le Magnolie in Loretto Aprutino. However this is further south and approx 45 minutes from the coast.
My wife and I love Abruzzo and we will be back over in April to visit family so I suppose we are biased.
Good luck with the property search

Have been to the province of Teramo five times in the month of August. Inland near Teramo I would give you a 50-50 shot of having nice weather vs cold and blustery and/or rain. Thing are bit better 30 km away in Giulianova although it could still go either way. Would leave my swimming trunks at home..

Thanks everyone for the inputs. We have returned now from our visit to Giulianova and surrounding areas. Yes as we all know now the weather was rather noticeable, wind ,rain, hail and freeeeeeeeeeezing. That aside we thought the area, the people and food fantastic and the really great news is that we found ourselves a property which fits our requirements and we return in two weeks to hopefully secure it. I like to think we will be regular participants in the various forums which have helped us in such a short time with our research etc.
Thanks again
Val
