I have several times - we used live in the pre-Dolomites and whenever visiting skiers came to visit during halfterm we always insisted that they fly to Venice and spend the first/last night there and we would as often as not join them. Atmospheric as anything but rented costumes are looking a bit worn and like many things catering to tourism, in need of attention.

Have never been for Carnivale, unfortunately, but would love to go. Venice is my favorite place - full of beauty, intrigue and a slight air of menace. Now who does that remind us of? ;)

Well sodj, I find in February in Venice it is the tourists who look a bit worn.

Why do visitors not understand that a decent fur coat is much more elegant, and just as waterproof, as one of those ghastly semi-transparent plastic bags which are wont to be worn?

I am sorry I mis-spelt it, it shouild be un ballo in maschera, which means a masked ball. Like the ones that they have in Venice.

But I wouldn't go to one in a fur coat. Reminds me too much of my former life in the Villa Borghese :o I time I'd rather forget ;)

LOL was wondering the same last year in Feb!! Though I don't wear fur coats, I wouldn't have one of those small tents wrapped around me either.

But then we only had half a day's rain & otherwise gorgeous weather... from snowstorms on the night of arrival to warm sunshine & lunch outside 4 days later! ;)

Nope we went the week after! Much cheaper and more quiet then... ;)

There were no long queues, no hassle getting seats in restaurants and a more leisurely pace as during Carnevale week I'm sure.

We saw a fabulous classical concert in a small church, though. That's more our cuppa tea.

Personally, I love the idea of flirting with all those lovely mysterious Venetians without them being able to see my face :) at least until the rash clears up ;)

you can use beeswax mixed with olive oil for rashes. It smells nice and its soothing after shaving.

Hi, I dont have enough money to get waxed at the salon and it hurts if i do it myself. Im saving like mad to go there, is it really expensive?. I mean is Venice expensive.

It depends on whether you plan to pay for accommodation and meals and stuff ;)

Have you read "The Floating Book"? Its set in Venice in the fifteeenth century, and is really evocative of that time.:)

I am a big plastic mac fan especially for those travelling Ryanair - do you know how much locker space a mink takes up and then there is the 15 kilos carry-on and all the shopping bags?:D

No, no, my dear. I do draw the line somewhere, and only wear farmed fur, and the minx is a protected species.

They dont make fur out of minx anymore unless its farmed. I had a coneycoat you can see one of the ears under the arms on the left side. I think they forgot to cut it out but I didnt get it in Italy and it wasn't expensive. Its only 10 kilos carry on.

I honestly think you should sack your furrier - incorporating ears in a decent fur is simply not on.

Well shame on you all I say, for wearing real fur. Get faux fur instead.

I would imagine it tastes rather like coniglio, which also has a nice furry coat, but presently my cook is working on ostrich recipes, because the hot fashion tip for next season will be the feather boa, and I always like to wear home produce.

They do kick rather hard though, ostriches.

We had mouse on the menu last night... well, my cat did... 3 of them in as many hours!!

The cat next door had a coniglio last week... fur & all... a feast!
