I would like to buy an apartment in Verona. Can anyone give me the details of a UK based firm which deals with properties in Verona or a trustworthy English speaking local agent.
Also, can anyone advise on the stamp duty charges applicable in Italy. It seems to be a confusing subject.
Finally, everyone I know seems to have had a tortuous process buying properties in Italy yet the process seems to be similar to other Eurpoean countries. Why is that? Assuming title is clear,is the solution to have a trustworthy English speaking agent who handles the contract, appointment of notary, etc.

If you want an English agent - look in the adverts in Italymag.
As to whether they are trustworthy - different people have different views on the same agent. [You only have to read some of the threads to see that].
Me - I'd contact local agents and arrange a weeks viewing trip [allow about 3 months to set everything up]
A good place to start is
[url]http://www.lifeinitaly.co.uk/Estate-Agents-in-Italy/Real-Estate-Verona-Veneto.htm[/url]
which lists all the estate agents in the area.
What I did was to 'google' a selection of agents to see if they had websites/e-mail addresses.
Then I e-mailed [in english and bad Italian]a few outlining what I was after [size, cost etc]and asked what they had.
Things progressed [slowly] until I had set up the viewing trip
Ended up buying one of the properties - so it worked for me
