Urban Trekking 2017: Guided Walks Among the Mysteries and Legends of Italian Cities

The 14th edition of Trekking Urbano (Urban Trekking) returns this year all across Italy with a record 62 cities participating in the initiative, which consists of guided visits to their historic centers, often highlighting little-known places and stories, all to be discovered strictly on foot. This year’s theme is mysteries and legends, which pairs especially well with the Halloween atmosphere.
Siena is the birthplace of Trekking Urbano, and this year the proposed itinerary focuses on legends and mythical figures who were part of the popular imagination. The tour departs from world-famous Piazza del Campo and explores the legends associated with the still mysterious origins of the city, and will introduce visitors to characters such as Cerreto Ceccolini, tambourine player and legendary chronicler of the 1260 Battle of Montaperti and poet Cecco Angiolieri, among others.
In Ravenna, Trekking Urbano offers a tour in the footsteps of Dante, who is buried in this Emilia-Romagna town. The five-kilometer walk includes a visit to its tomb, as well as Unesco sites such as San Vitale and Galla Placidia, embellished with perfectly preserved Byzantine mosaics.
Turin takes part in Trekking Urbano for the first time this year with several itineraries, including one by e-bike that will touch some of the most famous monuments in the city related to the Savoy and the legends that surround them.
In Narni, Umbria, visitors will be immersed in the mysterious world of The Chronicles of Narnia, the fantasy novels written by C.S. Lewis, where the river Nera is one of the dreamlike backgrounds to some of the novels’ scenes.
Catania’s tour is all about the mysterious life and legends of this Sicilian city, which, in the dark, becomes even more spellbinding as visitors explore the alleys of its historic center lighting the way with candles.

La 14esima edizione di Trekking Urbano ritorna anche quest'anno in tutta Italia con un record di 62 città aderenti all'iniziativa, che consiste in visite guidate nei centri storici, spesso evidenziando luoghi e storie poco conosciuti, tutti da scoprire rigorosamente a piedi. Il tema di quest’anno è ‘leggende e misteri’, che si sposa particolarmente bene con le atmosfere di Halloween.
Siena è il luogo di nascita del Trekking Urbano e quest'anno l'itinerario proposto si concentra su leggende e figure mitiche della fantasia popolare.
