Words by Pat Eggleton
To ask if something is sold in a shop, we say
si vende plus object
if we are asking about one thing.
- "si vende il pane? Do you sell bread?"
We say:
si vendono plus objects
if we are asking about more than one thing
- "si vendono i biglietti d’autobus? Do you sell bus tickets?"
Here we are using what is called the “si impersonale”.
It is often used where English might use a passive, as in
- “Bread is sold”.
