The Egyptian Museum of Turin, which houses the world’s second largest collection of Egyptian antiquities after the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, is undergoing a major transformation, which will see its space doubled once renovation work is completed.
The exhibition space will go from 4,500 square meters to 9,000 and will feature more than 6,500 artefacts, which will also be available for multimedia viewing through tablets and smartphones.
Expansion work is expected to be completed by February 2015.
In the meantime, the museum has temporarily sent 250 artefacts from its collections to the German town of Völklingen (a UNESCO city) for the exhibition “Egypt. Gods, Men and Pharaohs”, which continues until February 22, 2015. The artefacts have never been shown in Germany before.
The Egyptian Museum is in Via Accademia delle Scienze, 6. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, 8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Check the museum’s website for further information.
