Seventeen –year-old Luca Bono from Turin beat nineteen other finalists on Saturday to become the Champion Magician of Italy. The competition, held in Saint -Vincent [Valle d’Aosta] and recognised by the Fédération International Société de Magique, was the first of its kind in Italy. Luca astonished the audience with his four-minute act in which he manipulated cards, balls handkerchieves and doves and the jury voted for him unanimously.
Luca’s interest in magic began four years ago when he was seriously injured in a go-kart accident. While he was in hospital, his brother performed a few card tricks to amuse him and Luca was inspired to try some magic himself. As soon as he was mobile again, he joined the Circolo Amici della Magia in Turin. Then he met the actor and cabaret artist Arturo Brachetti , who encouraged him.
This summer Luca will tour Italy with Arturo Brachetti and in 2012 he will travel to Blackpool in Britain to participate in the World Magic Championships. Of the future, Luca says that he would like to become a professional magician but realises that this would not be easy and that he would need a lot of luck. Meanwhile, his school friends like his tricks but do not want to play cards with him.
