(ANSA) - Italian railway company Trenitalia is continuing an aggressive low-cost campaign aimed at winning back travellers from domestic airlines.
The company on Tuesday announced that 'Happy Train' journeys on selected trains from all its range - right up to the superfast Eurostar - would cost just 10 euros. All travellers have to do is go to www.trenitalia.com and see what's on offer for the following week.
The only requirement is that the booking be made online or over the telephone.
The company said around 40,000 seats would be up for grabs on some 65 trains travelling in the relevant week. The 10 euros even covers the booking fee. At the start of this year Trenitalia started offering 15% of seats on its Eurostars at a very competitive 29-39 euros.
The offer has since been extended to many Eurostar routes.
Trenitalia began its low-cost campaign in December 2004 with a Milan-Rome Intercity service, TrenOK, for just 9 euros.
The offers have been gobbled up. Customers now have to book the services months in advance.
