Angelo Sacco continued to threaten passer-by’s making it impossible for people to approach the bodies of the victims. The police attempted to negotiate with the shooter and were assisted by the relatives of Angelo Sacco, which were trapped in the apartment below his. The warned the police that the shooter had shown signs of depression in the past weeks and was a solitary man that spent more time with his guns, as he was a keen hunter, rather than other people.

Eventually negotiations failed and the Italian police SWAT teams entered the apartment and managed to capture Angelo Sacco. As he was being led to the police car he shouted to the crowds: “They wanted to take my house”.

The story has shocked all of Italy both because of the violence of Angelo Sacco, who kept shooting the dead bodies long after they had fallen, and because it comes at a time when an increasing number of Italians are facing economic problems, including failure to keep up with mortgage or rent payments.
