Maserati, the luxury sports car manufacturer from Bologna, is celebrating its centennial this year with a special exhibition held at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena.
“Maserati 100 – A Century of Pure Italian Luxury Sports Cars” features 21 Maseratis on permanent display, while another 30 will be shown on a rotating basis over the course of the exhibition, which continues until January 2015.
Maserati has called it the greatest exhibition of Maserati cars ever staged because of the prestige and history associated with the models on display. Besides the cars, 19 projectors tell visitors about the history of Maserati and the individuals who shaped the company.
The event is held at the Enzo Ferrari Museum, close to the Maserati headquarters. The company was founded in Bologna in 1914 by the five Maserati brothers, Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto. The trident logo of the company is based on the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna's Piazza Maggiore.
Maserati CEO Harald Wester, Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Carlo and Alfieri Maserati, the sons of two of the founding brothers, attended the exhibition’s inauguration on June 19, joined by the guest of honor, Sir Stirling Moss, the legendary 1950s Maserati racing driver.
The exhibition also features rare Ferrari models and Alfa Romeo racing cars of the pre-war period.
