The aim is to throw a mobile phone as far as possible and the competition grounds are the beach of Bellaria Igea Marina.
The organisers have set-up an appropriate space of about 2000 square meters, and contestants will be asked to throw a mobile phone (not necessarily theirs although that may be possible) as far as they can.
The organiser, Massimo Galeazzi, admits that this is a rather bizarre sport, but one that garners a lot of interest and many contestants. In a country where mobile phone usage is one of the highest in the world the symbolic act of throwing a mobile phone as far as you possibly can seems to be liberating.
Process from the event are being donated to the funds helping the reconstruction of Abruzzo while the mobile phones themselves are recycled.
