Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz has become the 14th star to feature as the face of the world-renowned Campari Calendar.
Titled ‘Kiss Superstition Goodbye’, the Campari Calendar 2013 is based around the number 13. It showcases the Italian drink manufacturer’s latest female protagonist in 13 vivid shots, as she engages with intriguing and mystical superstitions around black cats, broken mirrors, walking under ladders and spilling salt. Campari says the theme aims to instill confidence in people on the basis that self-belief enables any superstition to be overcome, enabling them to enjoy the pleasurable moments in life.
All the images show Cruz dressed in a variety of glamorous red-themed dresses and shoes from top fashion houses including Monique Lhuillier and Salvatore Ferragamo, as well as jewellery by Chopard. Fashion photographer Kristian Schuller shot the stills.
Cruz said of her role in the calendar: “I found the superstitious theme extremely intriguing and stimulating... As an actress I am often challenged to portray the ‘unexplainable’ and this shoot was no different. We created a character who had to portray a strong, positive attitude, and really get to the heart of each superstition and dispel these myths by promoting confidence.”
The Campari Calendar is an international limited edition of only 9,999 copies and is becoming one of the world’s iconic artistic calendars. Stars who have adorned past calendars include Salma Hayek, Milla Jovovich, Jessica Alba and Eva Mendes.
Campari is an alcoholic aperitif known for its dark red colour and bitter flavour, which is used as a basis in cocktails.
