Pitti Uomo 81 in Florence: menswear trends for 2012

Well heeled editors, bloggers, photographers and fashion lovers have descended on Florence to see the very best in menswear. Pitti Uomo is in Florence for the final day, running from the 10th to the 13th of January.

Pitti Uomo 2012 has shown fall trends for men that are heavy on tweed. The durable designs look better suited for the hunting lodge that the runway, a kind of urban chic meets the country. Importan debut for the new FW 12.13 collection of Andrea Incontri, dedicated to the Loden, with a special participation of Habsburg Schneiders line, the symbolic brand of traditional Austrian tailoring.

Since his debut at Pitti Uomo, as the winner of the 2010 edition of “WHO IS ON NEXT? UOMO” in the accessories category as the New Performer for Pitti Uomo 79, Andrea Incontri has enjoyed a rapid rise to fame, as he continues consistent experimentation both with his own label and also with new creative partnerships. His spring summer 2012 collection features the creatives of a community in the Italian Alps, on the border with Austria: revisiting the history of loden in a contemporary key.

Men can also look forward to elegant layers, with cropped jackets and capes shown over detailed plaid shirts. Even the bags and rucksacks were rustic, allowing city dwellers to tote around a bit of country charm.

Down jackets were also a popular item, with designers like Nigel Cabourn working with Eddie Bauer to reinterpret the winter wear. What resulted were bright colors and high tech that will take the chill of the coldest January day.

The talk of the town has been Valentino's Pitti Uomo runway looks. Creative leads Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli offered a celebration of culture and a homage to Italian films in a well-tailored collection. Slim pants were paired with loafers and no socks, giving the impeccably dressed models a modern air of casual man-on-the-go.
