Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi was visibly moved at Friday's solemn funeral for the victims of Monday's earthquake in the Abruzzo region which left 289 dead.
Rather than stay in the place reserved for him with other authorities, the premier mingled with the victims' families and rescue workers, shaking hands and offering his condolences.
At one point he was seen holding back tears.
Speaking earlier on Italian radio, Berlusconi said he had been ''incredibly moved by the stories of those who lost their homes, lost their children. This has been a devastating experience I will never forget''.
