The death toll from Monday's devastating earthquake in Italy's central Abruzzo region rose to 281 on Thursday afternoon, according to police.
One of the victims has yet to be identified.
Aftershocks continued to shake the ground in the region, with 71 seismic events recorded on Wednesday night, according to regional governor Gianni Chiodi.
The most violent, measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, was felt as far away as Rome.
Chiodi said there had been a total of 1,000 aftershocks since the main 5.8 magnitude quake on Monday.
