A team of Mexican experts in earthquake rescue efforts arrived in L'Aquila on Wednesday, more than a week after the city and surrounding towns were hit by a devastating quake which killed 294 people.
The 'topos' (moles) team was set up in 1985 to join rescue efforts in Mexico City, struck by a magnitude 8.1 earthquake which killed 10,000 people.
''We're here on behalf of all Latin America and ready to do our bit. It's the first time we've come to Europe to help out,'' the group told L'Aquila Mayor Massimo Cialente.
The team joined other rescue workers at New York's World Trade Center after the 2001 terrorist attacks which felled the Twin Towers.
