The Italian Red Cross on Friday issued a statement to express its gratitude for the huge amount of material donations it has received from citizens for the earthquake survivors in Abruzzo, but has asked that this stop.
The Red Cross explained that its warehouses were full and that the uncoordinated donations, even though given with the best intentions, were hampering their operations.
The only donations it can accept now, the Red Cross added, were those for goods specifically requested by its representatives in the disaster areas.
The Red Cross said that the emergency will be long-term and there will be ample time and ways to help the people of Abruzzo in the future.
