A supermarket worker in the Sardinian town of Cagliari was being feted for her honesty on Tuesday after she found a package containing 160,000 euros in cash and cheques and handed it over to police.
Mother-of-two Tiziana Concu, 43, went to leave a deposit at the after-hours deposit window of her local bank at the weekend when she discovered the cash-filled container in front of the window.
The supermarket worker took the box home but then handed it over to the police the next day.
''It wasn't my money, somebody else had earned it, and anyone who loses all that money could risk being sacked,'' she said
''My daughter's very proud of me. I don't expect a reward, maybe just a bit of gratitude''.
Police managed to trace the owner, a local businessman who posted the container but failed to notice that it had not disappeared down the bank shoot, and reunite him with his money, but Concu said he had not yet got in contact with her.
