2450 New Shutters - Cost?

I will need new external shutters for my house, eventually, and I was wondering if anyone knew how much they cost?

The originals (only one left, and the remnants of another in the store room) were wooden, but the locals seem to have aluminium in various shades of green which look just as good - and I think its only peeling paint that would enable to let you spot wooden ones.

So how much, roughly will they cost? Do they come in standard sizes, and if so where do I find them?

They are usualy custom made. Cost depends on the size of the window and the quality of the aluminum. They are not cheap, but well worth the money spent.

Can you still get the wooden ones as we also have one or two originals ? we would quite like to stick with the wood if at all possible. I hope they are not too expensive if available.

We have just replaced our shutters for matt finish aluminium (no maintenance). Paid Eu2,800 incl. 20%iva for 12 windows of varying sizes (includes 3 balcony sized). One is charged by the square metre and the price includes fitting, which took less than 2 days. Would have prefered wooden ones but price (about 3 times the price of aluminium ones) and the need for maintenance determined choice.

Before you all start running to our shutter suppliers, we had already paid Eu.1000 deposit, so total paid was Eu.3800! Just found original quote: Fixed are Eu.160 per sq mtr and movable (Orientable) Eu 180 per su mtr.
Don't forget to ask for a discount on the first quote.

have a sort of thing about windows and agree about the use of aluminium.... they are just so easy.... and a lot more secure... they also have variable levers so you can let in either a small amount of air or light instead of having them either fully open or shut... which as most houses do not really bother with curtains is also a bonus...

however some places you are not allowed to change from original features...

the other thing is they do make aluminium outsides and wooden inners which for those that want that natural look are useful...the wood on the inside also does not get the weather so virtually no maintenance....

afew years ago all you could get was gold... you will often find now that a lot of the wooden windows are not wood at all... but alluminium as they have almost perfected a look...of wood... coming in various shades... the choice is endless..

the thing is the costs are not that expensive for virtually a one off job...they are very secure in regards locks... and i know people like those wooden windows with shutters inside over the glass...however in the summer it means you have to leave the windows wide open... which is often not the best option here... with shutters you have the option of air and security...they keep the sun off when its hot...

the other thing is never take the cheap opton as regards wood fittings theyll never last with the extremes of hot and cold here... anything but the best hardwoods will be a disaster after a year or two...

also... get the insect screens as an integral part... the roller blind types...
