If it's a registered letter then it doesn't sound very good. Our lawyer is based in le Marche but we are in England/Puglia, it didn't make any difference because everything was done by email. Depends on the outcome of the letter but I can give you his contact if you PM me.
Hi,
We got a registered letter telling us to get a lawyer to be able to correspond with the authorities .wE are waiting for approval and hopefully not a fine:( , for the works we have done, (septic tank and walls inside the house) and want to do.( stair case and a terrace) Is this the normal procedure or does this sound like bad news? Anyone know an english speaking lawyer in the Ligurie?
I think relaxed is proably right this kind of thing is normally dealtwith thru a geometra, did you have a geometra draw up the plans for the works you have done or will do or did you just do it?if the second then yes it'll be a fine hope not too heavy as this ,despite appearances,is taken very seriously in most places.

It is even more strange when you say for works you have done and want to do. Did you not appoint a geometra or un tecnico abilitato to submit your project to the council and oversee the work?
What else does the letter say? Who sent it?
This sounds a bit unlikely to me - what is the word which you are translating as "lawyer"? Sounds like the kind of job which would more often be carried out by a "geometra" - a building surveyor/agent.
