3447 landslides

Does anyone have any information on Landslides? In our part of Abruzzo we seem to have had quite a few and we have some very steep land so we asked for a geological survey.It was fine but advised against cutting down any trees!The lanes near us are often blocked by large rocks/debris after lots of rain!

I would like to know what can be done to guard against any threat form landslide if anyone else has experienced this?Our house is on a flat area but the edge of our land does fall away sleeply.

I'm worried about our garden being so steep, although our geometra told us it won't slip, I will be have a retaining wall put halfway down our garden and leveling the garden at the same time.

We are also in Abruzzo and there have been a number of landslides on the road up to our house. When my husband spoke to the mayor he said that it had been worse than usual this year to the heavy rain they had experienced during February and the same happened in April when we were out there.

As beautiful sunshine seems to quickly turn to persistant rain within 24 hours of our arrival we are beginning to worry that we are taking our lovely welsh rain with us!!

If you want to guarantee a rainfree visit we promise to stay in old blighty for a fee!!

On a more serious note the landslides seem to happen where there was no vegetation to hold the rather clay like soil. OUr garden, such as it is is also on the side of the hill and I think we will be keeping it in its current mode as a "wildlife" area.

We are having huge underpinning to our house in Le Marche as it is in an area prone to landslip/earthquake. We think worth while as it is an insurance against problems in the future and will make the house easier to sell should we ever want to leave. However the downside is that it takes time and leaves everywhere round the property looking like a mud wallow - thanks to the rain this month. I could do a good line in mud baths/skin treatments with the high quality clay we have unearthed. But the house will be stable... we hope

My garden has also being designated a "wildlife" area ever since the Strimmer packed up.:D
