9123 what it costs... an italian pricing site and more

have been a member of this site (link at the bottom)for ages... have posted the link before but they get lost in many other posts

the point of this site is that it advertises everything to do with houses and work on houses and even links to Italian sites with houses for sale... hence our presence on it....

what i have done is pointed the link to the cost of works page and like all things in Italy it gives prices per sq metre... well its that way for most building works from windows to tiles and roofs .. the other thing to note is that building prices rarely include the IVA/VAT so depending on what regime you are carrying out the work under there are various rates to add.... max 20% here

there are also help pages/FAQ sheets on various fiscal rules that can allow you to save on what you buy and how to save

sheets on planning laws and how to approach things...even an online design studio...

plus forums to discuss all sorts of building issues ...in Italian I'm afraid... but there is lots of technical talks on a vast range of subjects from geometras to heating systems...

its not a bible... but it gives truth to the lies about costs here that so many of you seem to hear when you approach estate agents linked to geometras or building firms that are trying to sell you ruins with wild underestimates of costs so it provides good guides to allow you to judge what you are being told

always take into account the position and access to any property you are thinking of having work done on... size means a lot in building terms and if they can get a 20 ton lorry up to the front door it will always be better than having to wheel stuff in on a barrow... it can make vast differences to quoted costs which is why i say this is a guide...

anyway here is the link

happy reading ...

QUOTE]

I'd just like to stress this point as well because it's a very good one. There has been some talk in the past on this forum about high prices from tradesmen or implying that because a quote in Italy is much higher than similar work in the UK then it must surely be a rip off or someone out to get the "foreigners". While I'm sure that there are unscrupulous people out there, do think twice about the actual location of your property or prospective property when getting a quote. Your hideaway that's about half an hour on winding hilly roads from the nearest decent sized town may be ideal for you, but it's less than ideal for workmen - time is money and if they're going to have to spend more of their day getting there there then you will have to pay for that. Also if the property is inaccessible by road, then even just an extra 20m or so of having to carry materials by hand can add a lot of extra time onto a job - all which has to be accounted for in a quote. Just my tuppence worth
