9154 Window Area V's Floor Area

As some of you will know the size of a proposed room depends on the area of the window, i.e the window area has to be one eighth of the room area.

This is currently causing me a problem as I have an existing window in which I want to make a double bedroom.

Does anyone know a) if there is any way around this? And b) can I construct a built-in wardrobe and then take it down afterwards or are built in wardrobes still included in the room calcs.

Any advice would be very much appreciated, many thanks

Yes, we are having the same problem.
the solution is typical Italian, project shows a walk in wardrobe to reduce bedroom size but we will accidently forget to build the walk in wardrobe.
this has all be OK'd by architect. Official plans will show single bedroom but reality is double bedroom.
Really is a strange rule as our house has been here at least 150 plus years and we have changed nothing in this particular room but as we are restructuring house the legge states that we must either shrink room or make bigger window, bigger window not an option as in historic centre overlooking via Roma and would require more than a DIA to commence works.
Hope this helps
Steve

Thanks for the info, very useful.

My architect seems a decent sort of bloke and will probably 'look the other way' regarding this. I have a meeting with him soon and I'm hoping he'll suggest it before I do!

Cheers

It depends on your Comune's building regulation, in several ones in bologna's area if your work is on "old" house you can respect 1/16, by the way, to reduce room area with a wardrobe is a good deal to solve your prob

Hi
Not sure if this of any real help, but we took down a cattle shed that was attached to the house and rebuilt as a kitchen, the area is 10mx10m, and we asked the commune if we could put glass walls down 1 and a half sides, so we had 38sm of glass installed, I know that communes vary, but its worth getting to know the planning guys
