thin doesn't matter with porcelain because it's so tough (you'll probably need a powered tile saw to cut them) and it rarely looks cheap. Remember that in another era altogether porcelain was highly prized and was perceived as far from 'cheap'! It's just that we have (understandable) sentiments about things being hand made. The only thing I don't like about them is the very slight bevel that many of them have, potentially giving them that hint of a 'modern' look that you won't get with hand made tiles.
Depends whether you want traditional hand made cotto, or the much cheaper and easier to lay and maintain porcelain, piastrelle, which can be just as convincing/pleasing in their own way.
