I`m not sure if there are any but wonder why you want to send your children to an International School? Maybe they are so close to finishing their education that they wouldn`t have enough time to learn the langauge sufficiently well in order to come out with reasonable exam results? Our two daughters were 10 and 11 when we came to live in Puglia and we did have some misgivings but, after completing 2 years of education here, they are really fluent in the language and are doing really well and I think they would have missed out on so much if they had gone to an International School. By the way, I think there might be one at Taranto (it would have been our nearest). I seem to remember there`s a website - I think you just do a search on international schools.

You can search for International Schools in Italy on this site.

Thank you for your quick responses and wonderful advise. My children are 9 and 17. We will be in Italy for one year and then move back to the United States. I would love for both of them to experience local school. The time involved with the community would be fabulous for both of them. When does the school year commence? Would I need to suppliment the local education to prepare them to come home in one year? My son will return in his final year of secondary school. My daughter would not be a concern. All of your advise is very appreciated. We just found out about this move and I am trying to be as prepared as possible.

I imagine there wouldn`t be a problem for your 9 year old but it would be very difficult for a 17 year old. Would it be possible for your son to effectively take a year out and then repeat a year when he returns to the States? I`m sure he would need most of his year here just to learn the language and the curriculum here will be vastly different to back home. We`ve always supplemented our childrens education here - many people do. We did it to help them with the language to start with but now it`s for homework help and extra help with `tricky` subjects like French and Latin (not easy to learn in a second language). They do get vast amounts of homework and most people have someone to help their children with it - even if it`s just a youngster. By the way, the school year here starts around the middle of September - nearer the time they post a notice on the door giving you the exact date!

Thank you so much for all of your help. I love all the information everyone has left on this site. This is the real information I need, not the prepublished information on websites. If you have any other suggestions I would love to any and all of them. Do you know if there are any Christian churches in Taranto or Grottaglie. My husband will be working in Grottaglie and I am not sure where we will be living yet.
I appreciate all the wonderful information! I look forward to seeing this beautiful country and becoming a part of the community.

Sancho, I suspect just badly written!
I remember in the 1960's we had a maid who didn't realise Protestants were Christians too. Probably damned for eternity for not being part of the organisation known as the Catholic Church, but nevertheless Christians, we assured her.

Ah, well. If it's a Protestant church she's looking for, she's in luck, because I see there's a Waldensian presence. See http://www.chiesavaldese.org/indexen.html for the Waldensian links to Methodism, and http://www.chiesavaldese.org/pages/contatti/result.php??scelta=chiesa&select=puglia for the addresses and telephone numbers of their churches in Grottaglie,Taranto and elsewhere in Puglia. See http://www.bartleby.com/4/312.html for their history in Italy. I give them my otto per mille. What's that racket outside ?

There is indeed a Waldensian church in Aosta, and I wandered past it tonight during the celebrations.
I'm an atheist, but I do thank Methodism for my love of singing. I was a regular at the chapel in Rome opposite the Castel sant'Angelo. Also spent a very early holiday at a methodist owned flat at Intra on Lago Maggiore. I'll follow up that links another time - thanks - I'm sure my Mum will be interested.

I've just noticed this : http://www.fedevangelica.it/fcei/fcei04.asp - we've got all sorts of Protestant churches here, it seems: Baptists, Lutherans, Salvation Army.... Agreed that Methodists are very good for hymns. Do they use Hymns Ancient and Modern ? (I sometimes belt out "Holy, Holy, Holy" or "Abide with Me" in the bath.)

Both American, but the best I can find.
For the C of E in Europe, see http://www.europe.anglican.org/ (spectacular sounds on opening page), and for the C of E in Italy see http://www.europe.anglican.org/chaplaincies/chaplaincies_locations-flash.htm . Unfortunately nothing actually in Puglia.
P.S. Why haven't the RCs got any proper hymns ?

Wow did I start something....I am sorry! I meant no disrepect. You know you can create your own religion in America!! Ha ha! We have so many different things to believe in over here you can switch once a week and still not go to all of them by years end. I appreciate all the input. I should have asked for english speaking churches.....it is not going to matter what the demonination if I cannot understand what they are saying. I am working on my Italian, but in the very short notice until we may leave to come to Italy I will not be an expert by then.
Take care all!

for hundreds of years the RC church conducted the mass in latin (in fact the use of standard languages is only quite recent) nobody had a clue what was being said but it didn't bother anyone...

Dearly beloved Sister,
Aside from your intemperate language, which We hope you do not inflict on your Flock, you seem to err in supposing that sex or sexuality are any bar to becoming an Archdeacon in the One, Universal, Catholic Church of England. Agnosticism is - so far - a moot point, but bear in mind that We do not claim to know, only to believe.

P.S. Your intimate acqaintance with Naples was what gave away your identity. I wonder how many other Princes of the Church we have on this forum.

My intemperate language? I thought you would have the decorum to disguise yours. ;)
My intimate acqaintance with Naples ensures I'm not a member of any flock.. nor a lamb you can take to the slaughter.. as at least two of us know who is who and what is what. :D :p :D

I would love to hear how you are getting on as we are in a similar situation with boys who will be 7 and 17 when we make the big move. the younger one we intend to put in an Italian school but feel it would be a bit tough on the older one. We have found 2 schools in Lanciano, one is the Brtiish Italain School (and has a sister near london) and the other is a Canadian school called the Renaissance School but beyond the prospectus ( and for the latter they also sent a video) In have no "real" information,
Linda
Hello, If you receive any information would you please let me know as we are going to be in the Taranto area and I am not having any luck finding information.
Thank you!
