Yes - I know. Thank you.... don't know what I was thinking. All corrected now.

May she rest in peace. All the money in the world is not going to replace a mother for her children; however, she has tried to secure their future and this is commendable.

This is not a complaint in anyway and I do not mean to offend.
This is exactly what I created the ‘World News’ group for. A subject that people want to discuss but that doesn’t fit into any of the available categories.
Jade’s was a sadly short life, I do hope the money is used wisely for the children and that having so much does not become yet another burden on their young lives.

Well done Carole B for mentioning her untimely passing, she has done wonders for raising awareness of this terrible disease. She has with an inherent mothers love accepted her prognosis and with determination secured her young sons future and I for one mourn her sad loss.

I never really liked Jade Goody but despite criticisms about her being so public at the end of her life I believe she did it for selfless reasons and I admired her for that. I found out she had died on the news on TG5 so the ripples of her wishing to be so public about what happened to her are not just being felt in the UK and I am sure she would be proud to know that her death WILL save the lives of many other women. I feel desperately sorry for her boys losing their mother at such a young age and hope that their upbringing is the one that Jade would have wanted for them

As you have said, perhaps her example may help to save young women who will realise that cancer check ups are important at any age and that early detection saves many lives. Perhaps an idea would be to create a special Foundation providing screening for the disease and this should be the best way to remember her. People, in general, have very short memories.
This might pee some people off, but.....

Sorry to rain on the collective grief, but IMHO whilst Gordon Brown wrung his hands and recognised that Goody was a "courageous woman", I'd like to suggest he was totally wrong; maybe he was thinking of Jane Tomlinson? She was the cancer sufferer who didn't sell her life when she was diagnosed, but dedicated herself to others and raised millions for charity while dying of cancer. Jane, I am humbled.....
Goody may be many things, but I see a lot more in Tomlinson's approach & unselfish attitude that is more laudable than I see in Jade....whilst anyone's passing is a shame, I'm sad that society only recognises the value of someone's life if they have a publicist who ensures one can't move without being compelled to show sorrow. I'm afraid that I'd rather than look to those who don't sell their lives, but simply do good work, selflessly.
If the world and public opinion has left me behind, then so be it....move over Mother Teresa.

While I won't argue with your opinion on this question tuscanhills - Having our own opinions are our right.
But I do wonder how much more, or what else Jade would/could have done had she been told that she had more than a six months left to live? But alas she didn't, so we'll never know that. But as that was the timescale she was given when the cancer was diagnosed at an advanced stage, and as she was a single Mum, how natural that her first thoughts were for her sons. I really can't bring myself to question her motives with so little time left to try and organise a safe future for them.

I don’t think that Tusc was saying that Jade was less worthy than Jane. The circumstances as you say Carole were different. I think what he was getting at is the reaction of the worlds press to the event of their deaths.
I too find the cult of celebrity difficult to understand, especially when some celebrities are famous for being famous and nothing more.
I applaud Jade for what she did for her children and at the same time I mourn for all those with a similar diagnosis and a young family who are not able to make a lot of cash out of their situation, many of them will have to rely on charity for support. Perhaps those charities which benefited from the fundraising done by Jane Tomlinson?

The fact remains that Jade's fame and insistence on living in the spotlight to the very last has brought awareness of cervical cancer and the need for regular screening from a young age to millions more people than had she not sold her final moments to the highest bidder. She had many reasons for doing so, first and foremost to try and net as much financial security as possible for her children before she died in the only way she knew how, secondly because she craved the spotlight (anyone see the clip of her saying how she felt when she left the bb house the first time? "I'm loved! I'm loved!" she said, beaming), and after a childhood like hers that too is understandable: as a happy side-effect she has raised awareness for cancer and probably done more for the cause than Jane Tomlinson did (yes, undoubtedly far braver and nobler, I agree). That awareness will have a knock-on effect, from more people donating to the charities, to more women going to their smear appointments instead of putting them off endlessly, or noticing symptoms and getting a checkup.
Jade was a truly entertaining character, she made me laugh, she made me think, and I feel really, really sad that she won't get to see her sons grow up. Is she any sadder or braver than anyone else suffering and dying from cancer? Not really. But her choices in the way she lived and died WILL result in the saving of lives.
RIP.

I was surprised when Carole posted it as I dont see that it is a relevent subject for general chat about Italy, but hey alot of stuff isnt, and I dislike the cult of the "celebrity", but of course it is sad for her family and children, and hopefully has highlighted this particular type of cancer for other young women, in the same way that the tragic death of Natasha Richardson may make people more concious of the trauma that can be caused by seemingly superficial bangs to the head.
have moved thread to the circolo.
Thank you gardahomes, but for those that expressed surprise that I posted this where I did, I opened that post with this comment:
"I know this is maybe the wrong forum for this post, but the Circolo didn't seem right... so do forgive me, and if it needs to be moved - fine."
I looked and looked at the other forums and couldn't find a siutable place, and at the time I posted, when the news was just breaking, the Circolo just didn't seem right.
I suppose now the news is (sadly) little more than a yesterdays newspaper - doesn't matter what you do with it, or where you put it - it's over. But it doesn't alter the fact that it was sad news.:frown:

I'm sorry Carole, but the circolo was the right place for your thread in my opinion. Alternatively, Neilo's World News group - although there it would have had to stand up against Gaza strip invasions.....
Especially sad as its on Mothers Day too.
