I am sure I read a thread on this forum about using a 3 mobile internet on a UK contract in Italy without charges for using it abroad, I have searched forum but can not find it. Does anyone know if it is possible?

Hi. It certainly is possible using a handset as a modem on 3 ITA (although this will most likely be against your T&Cs). Whether the 3 USB broadband modem works on 3 ITA as well, I couldn't say as I have never tried this. The 3 service is called something like 'Three like home' and a google search will provide more info. You don't need to subscribe to the service - you use it automatically as long as you are on a sister network (e.g.: 3 ITA). However, if you intend to rely on 3 as your only method of connecting to the internet, my experience has shown that the data side of the 3 network in Italy seems to be a bit flakey! I have found that I will have no (or poor) data access for about 1-2 days a month, on average.
