Yes you must dial 187 and hope to get through a sympathetic ear. They don't speak English though. With persistence we eventually got a significant rebate. (The original aim was to cancel the 10 euros a month dial up payment). What you will never ever achieve, in my humble opinion, is a refund for having no telephone line for a month or so...they say that it is due to an act of God....God doesn't give refunds apparently!

I've recently switched to Eutelia Voip. As part of signing up with them, I signed something which acted as the "disdetta" to Telecom Italia. We even managed to switch our existing number from TI to EV. My big concern was would TI actually stop charging me, but they have - my final bill arrived yesterday. But don't forget to cancel the DDR well in advance, that way, if some rogue charges come through, just ignore them.
So now Telecom Italia truly does have something in common with a Mallard - they can both stick their bills up their ar*e.
You have my total sympathy!
A friend asked me to do much the same thing (disdire un contratto) on the TI site - of course.. I said.. no problems......well, I promise you, it ain't going to happen 'online'.
Ringing 187 (which isn't easy, unless you have got your ear attuned to brattish napolitano, and a quick finger on the handset buttons) could be an option if you have a quick talking Italian feisty guy (or gal) on hand....BUT for you, ringing 187 has to be the only choice (or delegating this chore). Just pick up the phone, forget all this www stuff - it ain't gonna work. Sorry, but "This Is Italy"! (And isn't it nice!)
