2426 Enel Bill and meter reading instructions.

Hi Guys,

We just got a 400 euro bill for the about the last two months electricity consumption. :(

At the end of last year we got stung with a 1000 euro bill after Enel had estimated wrongly, we were a little pi$$ed off because obviously we thought the previous bills were acceptable so hadn't changed our usage habits and being new and very busy hadn't thought to provide a regular meter reading.

This year has been different, we were told that Enel no longer estimated but reads the meter electronically from a distance and this is what they say on the bill, however there meter reading on the bill is 12148 and the highest number I can find on our meter is 11734 and there is another five figure number at 11137 (And this is 13 days after they say they read the meter).

On our previous bill we apparently consumed 912 kWh over 61 days (14 kWh per day) but for this bill it is more than double at 2189 kWh for 78 days (28 kWh per day). We haven't used much more heating and even bought a gas heater to save money.

It seems that Enel has estimated the bill even though they say they have read it.

Does anyone have any English instructions on how to read an Enel meter? I'm sure I remember there was a link to some somewhere.

At the moment we are trying to sort this out as well, as soon as I can find out I will post on forum. Meanwhile after six months here we are now living a very different lifestyle .Try not to use the oven, only once a week, do not use the kettle and the toaster at the same time ( all the lighting fails). Switch off lights every time we leave the room, all the house in darkness , do not now leave on all the outside lights as we did before. we are doing this to see if our bills are any less. The fleeces which should have gone to Oxfam and at the last moment were packed, are a Godsend................

If you've got a digital camera it might be a good idea to take pictures of the dials on the date of reading (possibly a succession of dates) as evidence of actual consumption, possibly with a copy of that days' newspaper if you want to go that far. Switch everything off (at the main switch) and then go and see if your meter is registering; if it is you have a bigger problem!

What a brilliant idea, we have not been extravagant, but the bills are so enormous, and have heard that electricity prices are going up. We will do this it will be very interesting to see the next bill. We were also told that they read the meter from afar.
We have a massive liquigas bill, and have also had 4 drops of wood since November. Let us hope the sun comes out soon, at the moment gale force winds here for the last 48 hours non stop.
