Excellent, thanks. That explains a few things.
Pot inst is the amount of power running through that meter at that instant (sounds like you have about four lights going!)
So what kind of units is this referring to? - 000,3 = 30 watts?
P3 pot max is the largest amount of juice drawn in this meter reading period.
The rest refers to the last meter reading period (precedente)
The meter read, in the past, 001311, and the max power drawn was 400W
Is this the greatest amount of power used at any one time? So the readings don't actually tell you what kind of line you have - 3KW, 6KW?
In terms of the A3 Lettura readings, can you use those to calculate what you owe ENEL?
If you are really into this stuff, you can actually watch your meter "going round" on line - from anywhere in the world on the Enel site!!!! :)
Trying to register now! :o

On the on-line form, it gives me the option of upgrading the power with a choice of 2 types; monofase or trifase. Any ideas what this is?
Thanks...

monofase = SINGLE PHASE, trifase = THREE PHASE, i'm guessing because fase means PHASE.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
3-phase is what you need if you're running a factory with lots of heavy machinery. I really doubt you want this ;-)

In the UK - I think most houses run with 21KW
In Italy its typical to be at 3KW
They are both single phase.
A UK street is supplied with 3 phase - a phase goes to each house - so every 4th house is on the same phase as you.
3 phase is useful for powering heavy machinery - like in factories - houses - dont need it.
ENEL - quoted me €200 + €4 a month for upgrading to 4.5KW - and I signed up - but their compoter crashed on the last signing up page- so I gave up -
I think its worth investigating uprating your supply - but you certainly dont need 3 phase unless you are powering some pretty hefty equipment - Farms often have 3 phase...
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
If you upgrade to 4.5KW isn't this going to increase the running cost though, not just the upgrading fee?

Funny that as fart in swedish means speed - couldn't believe it when I saw a ships signal post in a museum and the thought of a 3/4 back fart!!

Enel - online

Hi
We have just registered on line with ENEL, does anyone know how to access our meter readings, or direct me to that particular webpage, as we speak very little italian and struggle to understand the website. we thought it would be under Bollettino, but doesnt seem to be?
any help would be appreciated.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Warning! The Enel site is notorious for "not working" if you have only just registered. If you cannot get anwhere with it, try again in a week or so!
You bring up the page www.prontoenel.it, enter your user name and password, and click on the line "leggi i consumi" in the box under the picture of the meter (contatore).
That takes you to a page where you are asked for your "numero di cliente", and you enter the nine figure number which you will find on the top right of an electricity bill.
Then a screen comes up which gives you details of your contract, and scrolling down you get a table telling you how many KWh you have used in the previous four or five two month periods. It doesn't actually give a meter reading (or at least, not in my case).
If you want to see the bill "bolleta" then click on controlla bolleta, and if you want to pay it (credit card) click on paga. (I can't test this on my account since it is set up with another method of payment)
Good luck - hope this helps :)
Gas at €3000 for 6 months?
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 07/29/2006 - 08:46In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I hope someone can reassure me.
We moved to our current house in October 2005. We kept getting a gas bill for the first two bi-months at 0.00 as they hadnt read the metre.
In March we recieved a bill for the 6 months which was just over €3000 for the six month period.
We obviously queried this, which they sent someone to double check the reading, which was correct. We know the original metre reading was correct as we did it ourselves.
I know gas is far more expensiv ethan UK, but this is ridiculous. In UK I was paying about £40 a month for house size of about 150 sqm, here we live in approx 320 sqm, just over double, but the payments seem to work out about 9-10 times more. I was expecting about 3 times more.
I have even gone to the extreme consideration that we have paid for the other two houses near by to us aswell!!
Is this normal, I admit we have probably had he heating on twice as much as we would in UK, as we had a very hard winter with much snow Half way between Torino and Sestriere.
We are 2 adults, two children, and the water also heated by the gas. (although I throw the two kids in the bath together (not literally!)
Any ideas??? We do have three different heating controls, one for each of the three floors, but all off the same system. Does that make any difference.
Would love some assurance that this is normal! I would feel alot better about it then!
Just a word of warning regarding telephone billing/payment. I paid online last bill, message came back as service not in function, please try later, so I went to the PO and paid there instead, only to realise that my card did get processed, and so paid twice. Instead of crediting the next bill, I have now been waiting 6 months for a cheque. They already owe me €175 for an incorrect bill 7 months ago, to which again they have tols they dont credit a bill, it goes through to the overpayments depatment, and will need to be processed by a cheque refund. Every time I call it is 'in process'!
Not that lucky here!
No complaint with water or electric though, well not yet touch wood!
Gas answers please...!!!!!

I can reassure you that 3000 euros for six months is by no means "out of the way" for the size of house which you are describing. It probably has exposed roof beams and high ceilings, and if it the sort of house which British usually buy it might have an element of "open plan" about it. These houses are very difficult to heat in anway efficiently, so they are by definition expensive to run.
Sorry! But you asked for reassurance that the bill could be correct :)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
That works out about 500 euros a month for your gas..
My gas bill, here in the UK is not far off that amount in the winter. (approx £1,000.00 per quarter.)
I dont know how big a house of 320 meters is (ie;- how many rooms) but if it helps balance things for you.. my house was an old stone built stable converted to 5 bed 2 reception etc and all the rooms are large with high ceilings. Hope this helps and puts things into perspective for you.
I know 3,000 euros sounds a lot.. but if you work it out.. it's not so bad for an obviously large house. :D
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Many thanks for the reassurance!!!
Thats all I needed really, dont mind paying, just didnt want to be ripped off!
We used to have a 24 bed hotel prior to this and we were running on part metre part bottle/cylinder, and we only had bills of €11'000 per year there, so is where my doubt came into it.
The hotel was 7 times at least the size of this house, but are bills work out about the same!
Maybe I should consider cylinder again.
Anyone know the fact on the difference in price as a percentage difference.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
GPL (bottles) is considerably - sorry can't give you an up to date price comparison - more expensive than metano (the town gas). However, it is possible to be using metered GPL - this is common in villages where there is a large communal underground gas storage tank and pipes run from this to individual meters. That sort of metered gas costs more than "ordinary" metered metano.

We have registered what we think is our meter reading, but ENEL have bacically turned around and said that is wrong. we do not have anyone at our property who can read the meter, so i guess we will have to pay it. a friend thought we may have to ring the numero verde as they may not have not yet updated the automatic reading by remote, does anyone know if this is automated, and if it is not to much trouble what will it say to prompt me to put what information in?
we are desperate now as they are estimating nearly 200 euros every to months, and no one is in the property yet!!
any help would be much appreciated.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
It could be that you have an old fashioned (black coloured) meter, and that ENEL are estimating on a previous owner's consumption. Sorry you are having trouble with the ENEL site. As soon as you can give them a correct meter reading - ideally when you are present and can give them a call and ask for a man to come along and read it - they will sort it out and credit you (or you won't get a bill for a few years!): I have never had any trouble with them being dishonest, and they are reasonably quick giving refunds if they have overcharged.
100 Euros a month is, however, a pretty massive consumption, so when you are next there check that a local industrialist isn't tapping into your meter.

Hi Relaxed
Thanks for the info, the meter is one of the grey electronic ones, so we thought we would be able to see our readings on line but we cannot. We can see our Bolletta and on the left hand side of these it tells us that the Lettura is estimated. they are estimating that we have used 2250 kwh in 6 months which is a shock as no one is in the house, i would have, we submitted a reading the A3 lettura, we believe this is the right one, which was read to us by our builder and it was 000003, this is very low maybe its that low it doesnt register on the server, we will let you know how we get on.

Can anybody comment on how much more expensive getting tri-phase power installed would be?
Tarrifa in atto T3 - this is code for tarrif applied to the juice. Varies slightly between commercial, residential, etc. etc. T3 is normal enough.
Pot inst is the amount of power running through that meter at that instant (sounds like you have about four lights going!)
A3 lettura is the meter reading at the current time.
P3 pot max is the largest amount of juice drawn in this meter reading period.
The rest refers to the last meter reading period (precedente)
The meter read, in the past, 001311, and the max power drawn was 400W
