Having a little fun now, I'd got some nerdy comments on the Sienese scene:
After racing through the Palio of Sienna, Mitchell and Bond are on the roofs of the buildings surrounding the Piazza Del Campo. They chase for some time. A couple of shots later, there is a view from the spot where they are to the city and the tower "Torre Del Mangia" is half the city away. That's 2 miles in 20 seconds.

A few clips of Siena & (more importantly) Massa Carrara :)

I too enjoyed the Carrarra sequence.. apart from the fact I was trying to work out what on earth was going on... we visited the quarries by chance when we were in the area two or three years ago, fascinating! They also featured largely in a book I read this summer 'A Death in Tuscany' by Michele Guittari.
It was good to see another angle on Siena too, I look forward to returning there... not in the immediate future, our next visit is to further south in 2009.

having lived in Siena for 8 years and missing it enormously I was so thrilled to see the scenes in the latest Bond film! It's perfect for a film set, so beautiful, sigh...

if you lived in Siena for so long, then you know for sure how 'sacrosanto' the Palio is. And to see 'them' put sand on the piazza for another reason then for the race it was hard to understand, or let say it hurt. And even more it hurt to see people fake the paliocrowd. But finally the movie-scenes in Siena were not that bad.

I agree, very surprising but they know how to boost tourism don't they?!

that's the problem. Siena doesn't need to boost tourism. But the responsable people don't care what the regular people think. It's all about money and they forget to protect the city and especially the Palio. :madd:
We saw the film this weekend & loved the images of Siena; it didn't get too lost in naff-ness in the way that the other 007 films have done (I'm thinking of the New Orleans scenes with Roger Moore mincing around).
One element that you should also consider is that there's an amazing car chase at the very beginning that's in the marble mountains.
If I recall, there was also a tragedy in these scenes...
