3551 Il Conero

From Trieste in the North to Gargano in the South, there are only 2 great green promontories coasting the Adriatic Sea----Il Conero and Parco San Bartolo (from Gabicce Monte to Pesaro). Both stunningly beautiful and with interesting little villages snuggled in between.
Il Conero was the first regional park to be declared in the Marche region in 1987.
5800 hectares of protected area from Passetto va al Trave in the North running down through the delightful bay of Portonovo with its beautiful beaches and coves (not to mention some great restaurants), Monte Conero (572 m) the heart of the park and on to the Southern coasts and beaches of Numana and Marcelli di Numana finally ending in the plains of the River Musone.
An area of outstanding beauty missed by many ( not by the locals who flock there in July and August so look out at weekends in particular).
The area has a wide a varied species of birds, plants and fauna including the famous "Spaccasassi" a herb found growing between the rocks and used widely in the local cuisine.
Lots of interesting walks and places to explore or simply enjoy the scenery.
Le Due Sorrelle (2 massive rock formations) rising proudly from the sea, the yellow expanse of flower filled fields, the sparkling blue waters of the Adriatic-------keep it to ourselves it's our secret!!
Be sure to visit Numana, Sirolo, Portonovo and nearby Loreto and Castelfidardo (world famous for its production of accordians).
A smaller and much less spoiled Costa Amalfitana is right here in Le Marche and better still----senza i napoletani!!!!!
