3681 Macerata Opera season

Has anyone been to this? I hear its fantastic - held in an amphitheatre? Have not had time to explore the town of Macerata yet - is anyone aware of any links in English to this years festival?

Marinaw,
I went to a performance of La Boheme years ago. It was great. There are all sorts of fashions from the let's get the good frock out for the opera to the let's be comfortable and cool, so you decide.
We went along with a cool bag and some bubbly which was nice as we had a small box between 4 of us and so we decided to "go for it".
Looking forward to going back this year to see The Magic Flute.
Will be taking our own magic" flutes" and bubbly too !

Great re being able to take a bit of a picnic in, I find opera much easier going with a flute near my mouth!

We went last summer. I loved the atmosphere there. We had a box as well. Definitely the way to do it as you have such a great view of all the dressy uppy as well as the cool dressy downy of course. It was a great evening. We became completely lost on the way out of Macerata and soon found ourselves on a farm. We eventually found our way back to Penna San Giovanni but it took some time. The difficulties with the journey back in no way overshadowed the pleasure of a great family evening. We loved it. Everyone should go, on a regular basis.Complete escapism.

I haven't (yet) been to Macerata, but I have been to Puccini's lake near Lucca for an opera evening: I understand that the acoustics in Macerata are very good - because of the amphitheatre situation, (I can't say the same for Lucca which is totally open air!)

But, as to dress code - consider how special it is for you, and if it is very special wear something smart!! I was a bit shocked to see other visitors to the Puccini opera wearing anoraks, and though I'm not amongst those who insist on a "tie for dinner", I do consider it a bit disrespectful to the performers and to the other opera goers to turn up in a shell suit. Just my opinion :)

I have to say that I agree with you relaxed.
There are so many lovely linen or cotton outfits that can be worn to both look good and be comfortable.
As a regular opera goer, I always drees accordingly and it's nice when others make the effort too.
