Yesterday I was sitting on my balcony, in the beautiful sunshine shelling peas, which were a gift from my neighbour. All I could hear were birds singing and the occasional cry from a pair of eagles that were circling over the opposite hill. All I could smell was fresh mown grass from the olive grove around our house mingled with the scent of roses in the garden. I looked at the view and saw distant mountains and rolling green hills.
Were you in a rocking chair with a shawl wrapped around our shoulders and a bonnet on your head? Sounds like somat from Little House on the Prairie or the Waltons!

Nice idea Julian but it was far too hot for my bonnet and shawl. I did manage to make myself a reasonably good impression of a crabstick though, pink on one side white on the other! It will take ages to balance the tan now!

I heard that the eagles cry (once translated) went "look at that straniero down there, whose lobster skin tones perfectly match the rosy tint of her sunglasses, what beautiful style these Inglese have ..."

I reflected on al the stories of oil refineries, toxic dumps, polluted water and though to myself I really ought to be concerned about it, I ought to be campaigning to keep this place as beautiful as it is now, but I suppose I am old and have fought my battles in the past, now I am retired and I just want to sit here and view the world through my rose tinted specs.
I congratulate others for having the energy and concern to fight my battles for me and I hope they are benefiting from battles I fought (when I had the energy) I hope there is room in the world for both the young and energetic and the old and complacent.
I am putting myself firmly in the latter camp.
Nielo,
You've expressed my own sort of feelings but so much more eloquently.
Brilliant. I'm also firmly in your camp. It's that kind of smug feeling that we get and tell ourselves ..'but we deserve it!

What a lovely descriptive piece of writing, my idea of heaven. But in theory i'm sat here in England with the rain lashing down and the sky's very grey/gloomy!!
.........Anyway i'll keep dreaming.
