11979 Where to eat in Florence

There is an excellent and very economical "trattoria" near the Ponte Vecchio called "Bordino" at Via Stracciatella 9. Great value for money and even the Menu of the Day, 2 dishes for 7 or 8 euros, is great. Their soups are fantastic and it is a place full of atmosphere. It also has a lot of atmosphere and the majority of the patrons are Italians. It was recommended to us by one of the jewellers at the Ponte Vecchio and she has lunch there every day.

Thanks for the restaurant information, had a look at the site and it seems great......any ideas on where to stay overnight that is quite central as we hope to go for a few days in June but would prefer to stay in the area around the centre.

For those planning well ahead, the very best book I have found (which is now full of my scribbles) is The Food Lover's Guide to Florence by Emily Wise Miller.ISBN 1- 58008-435-4 It has everything re food and where to eat in Florence. If you want a cheap lunch then the indoor San Lorenzo market has Nerbone. It's on a corner on the ground floor. Cheap and wholesome Tuscan food.

If you stroll there from the centre it has the advantages of taking you past lots of nice little bars & shops. You may find you are the only tourist in there!

Florence has hotels to suit every budget. I have not stayed overnight there for quite a while as we go on day trips from our home in Lucca. Some of my daughter's friends stayed there and they were happy with their choice.

It all depends on how much you are prepared to spend.
Early booking is strongly recommended in all cases.

Booking The UFFIZI. Don't use an commercial agency it is so easy just to ring the actual Museum service and book a time and date to visit and get a Number. You pay when you get there. (The booking charge is less than the agencies € 3?). 0039 055 294 883 This includes reservations for Accademia & Bargello. (Once they answer, stick with the Italian booking line staff speak English and the waiting time is less). Also a good idea to research which rooms you must see...it's a huge place.
