10013 Insalate

Okay I know of one simple but very delicious nevertheless Italian salad - Caprese which originates in Capri.

This is a recipe for it.

3 vine-ripe tomatoes, 1/4-inch thick slices
1 pound fresh mozzarella, 1/4-inch thick slices
20 to 30 leaves (about 1 bunch) fresh basil
Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
Coarse salt and pepper

Layer alternating slices of tomatoes and mozzarella, adding a basil leaf between each, on a large, shallow platter. Drizzle the salad with extra-virgin olive oil and season with salt and pepper, to taste.

There surely must be many others. Over to you!!!

Looks delish Sal, did you make it?

What's that brown stuff drizzled over the Basil and Mozzarella? Surely it's not Balsamic vinegar!

Yes to both daft questions J+C. lol

Not really a daft question, you don't include Balsamic vinegar in your list of ingredients and I have never made a Caprese salad, nor eaten one, with vinegar on it.

The only dressing I use is evoo, salt and pepper; vinegar would ruin the flavour!

Neither the photo or the recipe is mine Girls and I do know already you do not add vinegar to Caprese. What about another recipe???

Shouldn't tell porkies Sally - I knew you didn't really make the salad in the photograph, but saying my questions are daft, is just like me saying that you wouldn't know an Insalata Caprese if it kissed you on both cheeks - except only one of us would be right! :laughs:
