I thought that was a throat condition ????
I brought quite a few plants over, wasn't asked about them ;) :)

So did we without any questions! Though we were sort of expecting that our very old Aspidistra might be taken away from us by customs?

We brought some plants over too. We had Pickfords move us & I just stuffed them into the packing boxes and over they came! My father has since brought me over various bulbs for planting.

we were also interested about this because we will be moving to italy early next year and we would definitely want to bring our two pets, the goldfish and my wife's plants over to marche.

if we drove through calais-dover, would customs stop us? what about french and italian customs?

The best route is through France, the borders are pretty much open, driving through Switzerland is beautiful, but a pain as you have to pay road tax, and pass through their customs and Italy's...

Before packing, visit your nearest tropical fish shop and get them to teach you how to bag the goldfish properly for the trip.

I've spoken to several people who have taken seeds and plants of all sizes on planes, boats, trains, cars etc. They all say they shouldn't but they'll risk it but I've not actually seen a law about it anywhere.
However, I remember seeing some kind of poster on arrivals at Stansted Airport showing various things that you shouldn't bring over to mainland Europe, like cheese. (I remember this as I was going red at the thought of my goat's cheese in my suitcase).
My husband and I were once stopped at Calais on the crossing to Dover and they wanted to remove all the dog food we had in the car. They told me it was not possible due to various laws about transportng meat based foods. A little bit of charm enabled us to go on our way but customs did make a fuss!
I would be interested to know if anyone has any idea on the regulations for plants though?
