10203 Red and Pink climbing plants in Italy

Just got back from 2 lovely weeks in sun-soaked Italy in the Serchio valley and around Lucca. Average temperatures 34 degrees, endlessly cloudless skies, back to rain and 16 degs at Stanstead. Back to work today. Deep joy!

Can anyone tell me what the red/pink climbing flower is that we see all over Italy? Long trumpet-shaped flowers, usually seen in huge bushes but absolutely stunning. Does anyone know if it will grow in the UK?

Would this be the one? No idea about whether it would do well in the UK. Your nursery would be able to tell you:

I believe the plant you have described is called Campsis, commonly with orange coloured flowers. It is a very prolific climber, and the flowers attracts the ants it is not particularly suited to planting close to your house. I am pretty sure you can buy it in the UK and it should grow well.

That's great. Thanks for the info on the ants. We're planning on putting it somewhere near the back of the garden anyway.

(Gala - we were in Pedona, just up the road from Bagni di Lucca and visited it a couple of times - once by accident!)

Oh well, you are neighbours. I am not in Bagni at the moment, but I will try to find out which is the name of the plant. I know "Campsis radicans" as suggested by Olive and it could well be that one as it should be flowering. Have a look and you may be able to recognize it:
