10443 Sardinia,End of Analogue TV Signal Soon

Only just found this while looking about for broadband.Best I get a digi box.

The task force coordinated by Italy’s Communications Ministry to manage the transition to digital terrestrial broadcasting in the Sardinia region has established that the switch-off originally planned for March will take place between September 1 and October 30, 2008.

The delay is due to the necessary timing for the implementation of the plan for the assigning of frequencies passed by the Communications Authority on February 5. As a result, broadcasters will be able to use the time between March and October to acquire all the necessary technology and intervene on hundreds of transmitters present on the island.

Paolo Gentiloni, the Communications Minister, has allocated €54.8 million to support the transition process in the all-digital regions.

Thanks for that PAS - I thought I had better check out the timing of the death of analog TV in the rest of Italy. It seems non-Sardinians have another four years to ready themselves!

"Ma la pellaccia della vecchia tv è dura, e solo nel 2012 esalerà l’ultimo respiro, quando cioè anche le emittenti trasmetteranno solo in digitale (in Sardegna, che era stata la regione che faceva da tester, questo termine sarà tra solo un mese)"

Hi Pas,
have just received email from our friends in Sardinia, that says digital tv will happen on Sardinia this month, and that a digibox will cost about 40 euros, if we bring a bang up to date lcd tv from uk will it work in our house in sardinia ? Our electricion has just fitted tv aerial so they are taking one of their tv's round to see what the signal is like (will be analogue tv)
Thanks for your reply of the other day re sailing down to Sardinia, have decided to go via Marseille - so will let you know how good (or bad) trip is when we do it. kind regards vince and sharron

Not sure on that one you'd be better to check with the makers of your tv.We bought our Samsung Lcd in Sardinia.Having said that I don't think it would be a problem.
