You are so right about the overpriced bit Gala. We like to walk and be in the fresh air during the day. Enjoy lunch and then come back to a rented place and make a light supper and read until we fall, early to bed. The dog is used to all this. I wondered if anyone had stayed in a place that they would recommend in the Cinque Terra? So far Heiko has suggested a room in her village (no kitchen), with a fantastic view of Liguria when sitting on the loo!!!

The area which is particularly good for walks is "la Via dell' Amore" between Manarola and Riomaggiore, about 1 km of an excellent road with great views. Try to get a pass or you will be charged 3 euros per person every time you decide to walk, although the Cinque Terre Card is valid for only 24 hours... You have plenty of information through Consorzio Turistico Cinqueterre and √ Le Cinque Terre: guida turistica e prenotazione alberghi.
Everything is very expensive in the Cinque Terre, it is a small area and they try to get as much money as possible from visitors... Now, the local white wine is fabulous and they make delicious plates of fried fish which are worth the expense. Anchovies are also great and they have a local dish called "tian" which is a baked cake made of potatoes, tomatoes and anchovies which is fabulous.
We shall be going to the area in October-November with our dog. We always catch the train from La Spezia and go to spend the day at the Cinque Terre.

I had a look for you in one of my favourite sites when I am looking for accommodation for us to go with our dog: Viaggiare e fare vacanza con il tuo cane o gatto - Dogwelcome - Vacanze e viaggi in Italia ed all'estero con cani e gatti - Hotel, agriturismo, campeggi, trasporti, accesso spiagge dove gli animali domestici sono ammessi
Up to now, we have never been disappointed. They recommend this place at Levanto, which is right at the entrance to the Cinque Terre and no problems with the dog. It looks quite nice:

We had a lovely holiday in Liguria with some friends and our dog a couple of years ago and it was also at the end of October; however, we were not staying at the Cinque Terre, only went there for day visits. Have you thought about Lerici or Porto Venere? The Cinque Terre is wonderful although a bit restrictive, particularly at night time. It is also a bit overpriced.
