It is 400 - we can get the numbers immediately including any from the UK (no-one from outside Italy or the UK phones us so don't know if it is true of other international numbers) but as Noble has said it is not always reliable and I know it does not always record every number!

If your telephone can do it, you can ask Telecom Italia for caller ID - costs about €2 a month I think - and the phone collects the numbers you have missed. It doesn't always work (depends, I am told, on 'network capacity') for international cellphone incoming calls. From memory the service is called 'Chi e?' and you can enable it by a phone call to 187 or on the website.

We have a couple of cheap phones with the screen that shows the number you are dialling, if you miss a call it flashes to let you know and by pressing the arrow keys it shows the number of the last person who called.
This probably doesn't help.
Stribs
I think it's 400 but you can't find out who called you until the next day (must be an overnight computer thingy), but even then Telecom doesn't pick up incoming foreign callers...so it's an unreliable service.
