I'm new to this forum, and I have a small house in Umbria. I've found MondoConvenienza to be a good source of "rustic/arte povera" furniture...I practically furnished my whole house with their products. I've been to the Piancastagnaio store and ordered/picked-up there, and I've also ordered online from the States and had my property manager meet the delivery truck with a cash payment for the furniture. Both options worked beautifully...the store delivered when they said they would, and they assembled everything and placed it in the proper rooms for me. The quality of the construction is basic, but the prices are great, and the rustic furniture looks like it "fits" in my old stone house.

Try:
- http://www.mercatinoannunci.it (under Casa e arredamento)
- http://www.mercatinousato.com
A search under any of the google.it or yahoo.it using "mercatino usato" will also give you a stack of results.....or set your own up as there are soooo many enquiries for this kind of thing!

We will also look at all other sites listed in your emails.
Many thanks again.

A friend of mine who sells antique (Georgian) pine in the UK is thinking of bringing a lorryload out to Umbria to sell. (She is restoring a property in Umbria)
What do people think, would there be a market?
My husband and I have recently completed a restoration property in Caprese Michelangelo, in northern tuscany and are about to furnish the property ready for rental.
Could anyone recommend any furniture shops, diy shops which are closeby.
We are aware that there is Ikea but were looking for something a little more rustic and in keeping etc.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

We were at the Arezzo Antiques Fair on 1 May and were disappointed. There is a huge choice of furniture, china etc but it is very expensive.

Shabby chic in Liguria
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 06/17/2005 - 08:29In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hi everyone!
This is my first post. I'm about to sign for an apartment on Tuesday near Alassio and I'm desperately searching for 'shabby-chic' furniture in the Liguria area. Does anyone know of places in Alassion, Savona, Genoa etc where there is a (cheaper) Portobello Market type area? Everything appears to be either top end antiques, or super designer gear.
Thanks
Rachel
This is a well timed question as we have just returned from shopping for furniture in Italy. We went to Arezzo furniture market (first weekend of the month) and found some things that we liked but in general found the prices to be too high. I think there were some things that were not too expensive if you were prepared to restore or tart up yourself. We don't feel we have the time for that and wanted good but not necessarily antique pieces.
We were advised that there is a collection of furniture sellers in Città di Castello in an industrial zone on the fringes of the town and indeed we did find some more furniture there that was possible, although again some was ferociously expensive. Our problem of wanting nice stuff that was not too expensive was compounded by the fact that our house is in northern Tuscany and would therefore cost extra to transport. We also visited a place that might be useful in Piancastagnaio. It's called "Mondo Convenienza" and you can check out their website http://www.mondoconv.it/
They seemed to have the best new furniture in a "rustic" style that I have come across.
I only have a dim idea of where Caprese Michelangelo is - and in fact I might be wrong as I thought it was closer to Umbria or Le Marche than northern Tuscany. Anyway, any of these sellers will deliver but may charge you extra if you are very far from them.
