11805 Car Mot in Italy

Hi

Hope somebody can help me, we purchased a new car here in Sardinia just under 3 years ago. I assume we have to get the Italian equivalent of an MOT at some point, can anybody tell me when I need to do that.... lets hope we are not driving illegally:eeeek:

many thanks

it's called a "revisione" and needs to be done after four years if the car is new, and every two years thereafter. The mechanic will give you a sticker that needs to go on your car registration documents: make sure it is as if you get stopped and don't have a valid sticker they will take your car documents away. You'll then not be able to drive the car until you go to the motorizzazione civile offices after about 10 days to pay a fine and get a photocopy of the documents, with which you can then get the revisione done, then you have to go back to the offices to pick up the original documents. I speak from experience :-)
The fine is about a hundred and fifty euros, from memory but it's a real hassle doing without the car and trying to get it sorted without one.
So you are ok unless the car was second hand, in which case it should have been done within 2 years from the date on the last sticker.

Thanks for that I think we are ok for just under a year. The car was actually an ex-dem, registered to the dealer in Feb 06 and we brought it from the showroom in June. Certainly don't want to get in trouble... their parking fines are high enough here:bigergrin:

Many Thanks
