This is a subject we were talking about yesterday with an Italian friend, and a newly arrived English person.
I am not going to go into the whole hunting debate as my stance on this is probably well known by other members, but purely from a safety point of view it would seem madness to put guns into the hands of children. The spotty arrogant youth that loomed up beside me with his gun when we were picking our olives was scarey enough, and remonstrating with him that they were shooting too close to us was dealt with by a shrug.
I realise as the law stands now it is not possible to keep hunters off my land unless it is fenced and posted, but I would wish that they would offer me the curtesy when they are hunting there to abide by the law and keep a safe distance.
I also think that for many of us arriving here and living in a rural community, the custom of hunting almost at will , is a shock as the dangers are more apparent, and the thought of a trigger happy kid with a gun is going to make me think twice before I venture outside to my olives this coming November.

My neighbor's son was hit in the knee by a bullet while riding his motorino on a forest road. The fewer jackasses with guns roaming the countryside, the better.
Digging in the archives

I've searched the archives. Yes there is a mass of information regarding hunting regs, rights, gun sizes, magazine capacities. It looks like I missed out on a good debate. Ho hum. By the way did anybody answer the question from Il cacciatore?
I think that the issue of kids with guns is probably a sideline. There is probably much more to be wary of regarding hunting law changes. There is also a thread started in the Sports section, a newspaper article has been posted. This also states that there are proposals to allow hunting after sundown and also when the ground is covered with snow. With the way that the present laws are regularly flouted, surely any legal relaxation will only allow some of the hunters to flout more rules with impunity?
Children do handle guns, air pistols and air rifles but still guns. They practice in a controlled environment with supervision, shooting at targets.
For my part, it's the adults who are more scary, they're allowed out!
