2348 law 194

This weekend for those that might be interested there is a call to demonstrate in the squares of italy… this time in support of the law 194…

In all honesty the law is not under threat despite heavy pressure its more the attempts more recently of demonising those that use it that the protest is about and the fact that the attacks on the law are seen as an attack on female self determination

Was it likely to be? I thought the demo was for the law and the law for woman or have I missunderstood and got my timing and humour all round the wrong way? Sorry not up in this 194 thingy, should be as I'm a woman!

Is there not a holiday in Italy that is celebrated largely by women only in honour of their civil rights or some such thing? I seem to recall it being discussed here at one time in the past...

It's 8th march, but it is not a "legal" holiday.
Once it was essentially a political celebration in honour of women civil rights.
Now it has lost most of its political strenght and importance and it's just a mere (and stupid) "holiday" with women having parties at restaurants even with male strip-tease.

“I do not believe any Italian woman worth her salt will allow herself to be oppressed again, especially regarding the struggle to gain abortion rights in Italy. ”

May I take it from the above that you are very much in favour of killing the unborn ? And may I ask therefore at what point, if any, you think it’s a bad idea ? 3 months in the womb, 6 months, 8 months …

Since you introduced this very controversial subject and your own views on it, you should expect to be questioned about your views.

What a lovely black and white world you must live in. Personally, I have no wish to see any living creature killed (Save for a very badly behaved nine year old boy - Is abortion possible at that age?).

That said, there are times when abortion is one of a number of very difficult choices all of which have detrimental result to one or all of the parties involved. These issues may be financial (Yes, but it's true!), social, physical or phsycological. Whilst there are alternatives, what is worse. An abortion? A mothers feeling of pain following an abortion? A child who is brought up in an un loving home? A child who's mother simply cannot provide for it? A mother who suffers pain for the rest of her life as a result of having to put her baby up for adoption?

I personally cannot answer any of these questions and as such would not normally challenge anyone as a result of their views. It is not a simple issue and is not a single issue. You seem to have it very clear in your mind, so rather than challenge someone over their views (Stated very much as a one liner), why don't you explain some of this to us?

Andy

ernie seems i am the guilty one for originally causing you offence... however i think you just have to realise the world is not a perfect place and say if we all agreed to pay 5 % more in income tax .... maybe that money could then go to help with education and support for those that often have to make a difficult choice... but there you have it... its a law of choice...mainly governed by economic circumstances.... rather than try to remove rights and make people feel guilty ...wouldnt it be better to improve the world and make the choice less dependant on wealth or fear.... indeed one of the reasons for an increase here is a law introduced to stop immigrants having babies in italy by deporting them if they get pregnant...their choice ...work in italy...or sent back to poverty with another mouth to feed in prospect.... wouldnt it be better if instead of preaching a creed of non use of protective measures to avoid pregnancy ...education of the use of means of contraception was provided .... i think someone has already said life is just not so simple for all of us...

presume that on the same day if i had also posted on the pacs demonstration you might well be upset about that too.... or maybe you agree with the rights that are proposed in that

Alenia,

Please answer my question, I know it is a difficult one. That's why I asked you.

"Do you have a milkcart?"

Now please tell me, what exactly does this mean ??? Retribution ?

Baffled, totally baffled.

Aliena,
