Then we found you and put you on here!! Oh dear, far to many Brits now! Think we better start keeping quiet about Puglia, horrible nasty place don't want to go there! ;) :D
Lots of talk about get togethers/ parties with " Brits" interested, or moving to a certain region.... that is good........ but I don't hear anything about friendships being attempted, or made with the local fratenity.......
I shall be returning to Italy with my granddaughter next month.Rebecca is 5 and our neighbours are so looking forward to seeing her and she them. She will give them a photo of herself, drawn pictures for them and show them love. The locals have altered her name 'Rebecca' to 'Rebecchina' ( little Rebecca) and I can tell you at 5 yrs she has already mastered the art of conquering an Italian heart...
Italy has it's problems - for some perhaps the grass isn't as green as one thought, but please lets hear more of the locals. I certainly will enjoy hearing your neighbourly experiences included on this thread.
I think you don`t hear about friendships we have with locals because, on a site like this, we`re comparing experiences and sorting out problems etc. We do by far the largest part of our socialising with locals, some of whom we knew for years before coming here and have been over to the UK to stay with us before we moved here. Our kids have only Italian friends. What more can I say? I`m sure it`s pretty much the same for everyone else, especially down here as, despite popular opinion, there aren`t that many Brits in Puglia! All the Brits we meet are going to huge efforts to fit into the local community and, in fact, can be quite difficult to track down. Until Martin started working here, we only knew one British family and they`ve been here for nearly 30 years.
