General chat about Italy

Hi there,

We bought our house in centro storico of Penne in July. Have some quotes for works (roof electricity, plumbing etc) but haven't started yet, so cannot recommend.

Who did you buy through (pm me on that one, I think)? :)

We bought through an estate agency in Loreta - interland ... you

Is yrs to be a holiday home or thoughts to move out there ?

Retecasa - they have been super helpful - way more than is strictly required - even now that they have their commission.

Just for frequent holidays for now, I'm afraid - need to earn a crust - I suppose I could become a property finder and help English people buy houses in Italy? Does anyone think that's a good idea? Do I need any qualifications? :)

I think there is a course you cab do to become an estate agent, no qualifications needed to kind of be a house finder ?

we are flying out tomorrow for a long weekend ! Any good places to eat near penne ?

In Penne there is the Grotta, which is family run, and the Leone which is a bit more upmarket. There are also a couple of pizzerias which are good. Haven't eaten in the countryside though. There is always the Castello in Loreto which is supurb, and La Bilancia outside Loreto is supposed to be good but I have tried it.

By the way congrats on your house. The area is really great (at least we think so). :)

oh thanks I'll look those out.......
I'm off now, but will be in on Wednesday in yr on line.......

It's been good chatting with a fellow abruzzo lover !

Juls,Benvenuti,

We have a house in Vestea, 12kms away & slightly above you. (Go thru Montebello) We now know, with you and Tinker, 10 english couples who have bought in this region.

There is a bar in the square in Penne called the FRIENDLY BAR, and is run by 2 Italians who lived in the UK for 18yrs.
Go in say Rob & linda, Dolly & mike sent you, where's my free drink?. They are very helpful for local knowledge.

The Bilanca at Passo Cordone is excellent, so is the Di Rocco Hotel between Passo & Penne. There is a website called; www, abruzzolife.(something) that lists many local restaurants, with posted personal recommendations.

As soon as we've sold here, we're off permanently.

Ci vediamo
Rob

Hi Rob, thanks for the recommendations !
Unfortunately I didn' get them in time for this trip as just landed back in the uk.

it is so cold out there at the mo, and we had snow ! Penne looked lovely but the roads were a bugger to drive on.

So why abruzzo ? What kind of house do you have etc etc ?

Hi Julz , My wife and I have bought a house between Montebello and Vestae( Must be quite near Rob) and near Penne. We were due to move out in a couple of weeks time, but due to a family wedding it will now be May. Hopefully it will be warmer then anyway.
Hope you enjoy Abruzzo

I am so jealous about all you guys living out there !

What about all meeting up out there in the summer ? thoughts ?

Hi Julz,

I have just stumbled accross your e-mail and was just wondering how you got on with the rennovation of your property in Penne? No doubt it has been a bit of a struggle, knowing how the Italians work!

My husband and I have just bought a run down property in the historical centre in need of complete moderisation. We were fortunate enough to acquire the property at good price but we are now struggling with finding builders to take the job on. The first quote we have had has come in at 75,000 euros, without a kitchen and not including the project managers 15% fee. EXTORTIONATE to say the least!!!

Any advice????!!!!

Lina

Hi,

we've just finished ours and our builders were fantastic.........
The wife is australian Italian and her husband the builder is Italian through and through........

Feel free to PM for their number or to come and look at their handy work

we are off out there next week

Julz
