255 Hotels in the Dolomites

We're driving to Italy in June/July and want to spend the last two nights of our holiday in the Dolomites before driving home through Germany. I wondered if anyone could recommend hotels/villages. We plan to do some walking whilst we're there. We have seen a couple of hotels but they are charging a supplement for staying less than 3/4 nights.

I don't know any hotels, but a work colleague spent some time in Selva on a walking holiday. The Val Gardena region is beautiful. I had a brief visit to Ortisei a few years ago, and the trip through the region was at times breathtaking. http://www.dolomitesworld.com might help with your hotel search.

As Jane said, Selva and Ortisei are very nice but you might also want to look at Alpi dei Suisi which is closed to cars of non residents/hotel guests - others must take the cable car and many do to enjoy the excellent walking. Cortina is the other not to be missed location - better in summer when all the fur coat wearers are on the beach! All 4 places mentioned are also winter sports spots - some unsightly buildings but also useful cable cars to take you to the start of your walk. If you don't want a ski resort and don't mind cheap and chearful then we know a place above Trento (as in Council of Trent fame). This can be reached from a cable car at city centre and then a short walk to pensione - exceptional value and reasonable mountain food. Great walks with fantastic views down to Trento and the Adige valley. If you are interested I will have a rummage for contact details. On your way out of Italy don't miss Frozen Fritz (aka Oetzi) at his bespoke home in Bolzano.

Thanks very much for the info about the Dolomites. We have now booked two nights in Castelrotto. We would like to make the most of our full day in the Dolomites. Does ayone have any ideas about places we should seearound the Castelrotto area. We would like to do a short hike if possible. Also - not really Italy - we are driving home through Germany and think we might spend the night around the Trier area. Has anyone ever driven around that area. Any nice places to stay for the last night of our holidays?
